Cycling socks are the complement that every cyclist needs. Its technical fabric will facilitate pedaling and will prevent chafing and blisters. We offer you a wide range of socks for both professional cyclists and amateur cyclists. Discover here which one is ideal for you!

What cycling socks to wear?

Cycling socks are a basic accessory for cyclists. They stand out for their technical fabric , prepared for this comfortable pedaling.

If you want to avoid chafing or blisters , we advise you to complete your cycling kit with some cyclist socks. In addition, they are designed to perspire and not retain sweat.

If you are a professional cyclist, you should follow the UCI rules that propose a specific sock height for cycling competitions.

According to the rule, the height of the sock must not be higher than half the distance between the center of the cyclist's malleolus and the center of the head of the fibula.

But if this is not your case, we offer you a great infinity of cycling socks that are comfortable for you and have an optimal fabric for your cycling routes.

How do cycling socks have to be?

Have you ever noticed continuous pressure on the ball of your foot? This may be because you are not wearing cycling socks. For cycling, the ideal is for them to be thin and breathable, as we have already mentioned.

It is also important to choose a suitable fabric. At present , the fiber fabric stands out in this type of product, such as the so-called Coolmax®. This fiber allows optimal ventilation and transpiration of the foot, while keeping it dry and at a stable temperature.

Regarding design, there are many top quality brands that choose to leave their logo visible on their socks. In addition to this, you can choose between patterned, striking, plain socks or even customize them.

Are tall cycling socks better?

It will depend on the temperature or environmental circumstances in which you train. With high temperatures, high socks can worsen your skin's natural evapotranspiration, so don't dress up if it's 40 degrees on the asphalt or on your mountain bike.

High socks are recommended if you practice offroad, just as long mountain bike socks are more useful if you ride on terrain with scrub and undergrowth, because they will protect you from scratches in an area as exposed as the tibial.

How to choose the size of your cycling socks?

Getting the size of the cycling sock right will help you prevent small injuries such as blisters.

The sizes of compression socks for cyclists are usually divided into different foot size ranges: S (31-35), M (36-40), L (41-45) and XL (46-49). Once you have this clear, you simply have to choose the size that matches your shoe size.

However, if your size is between two measurements, the most correct option would be to opt for the smallest model. Since to carry out any physical activity it is better that it is fair than wide.

If we wear specific socks that do not correspond to our foot, even if they are of quality and suitable for the sport that we are going to practice, it is as if we were wearing normal socks, since the functions for which they are made are not fulfilled.

It is important that the garment is made of synthetic fibers, the fabric breathes, that it has reinforcements in the areas of the foot that wear the most, has a compression point, and that it does not have any type of seams.

Types of cycling socks

Anyone who has spent a few hours pedaling on a bicycle knows that even the smallest detail of the bicycle and the outfit we wear looms large.

Wearing good socks is as important as wearing good gloves or appropriate clothing for practicing our sport.

The shoe makes contact with the bicycle thanks, in most cases, to clipless pedals. But what allows the foot to fit into it without difficulty are our socks. This importance of adjustment is decisive to make each of our pedal strokes efficient, but it is also key to avoiding friction and the dreaded blisters.

Currently, the vast majority of cycling socks have no seams, precisely to avoid the effects of constant friction on different parts of the foot.

MTB socks

Cycling socks are specially designed not to create creases and protect the foot from possible friction from the shoes.

These bike socks can be presented in various materials:

  • Nylon and polyester : these are the fabrics that are most used in the manufacture of this cycling accessory. They are fabrics that have very interesting characteristics such as elasticity, resistance and quick drying.
  • Merino wool : this fabric is used mainly in socks designed for the winter season. They maintain the temperature of the foot very well and above all they eliminate moisture from the foot.
  • Lycra : it is a material that is used so that the sock is completely attached to the foot and does not form any folds.

bike socks

Our feet are one of the parts of the body that has the most sweat glands (about 250,000 in each one, if you are curious about the data). That is why these extremities take one of the worst parts during long days of pedaling.

If the emission of sweat is added to the heat generated inside the shoe due to the force with which it is printed when pedaling, we understand why it is essential that our cycling socks offer good breathability.

The synthetic fibers with which the vast majority of cycling socks are manufactured today outperform natural ones. Lighter and more breathable due to the fact that their fibers are hydrophobic, polyester and nylon are great allies for practicing sports.

Although they are highly absorbent, they have the advantage that they do not accumulate sweat and keep your feet dry, which helps keep your feet warm. In addition, they prevent the proliferation of fungi and bacteria.

Some socks are padded in some parts, this is not due to any design whim, but rather fulfills a specific function. Specifically, to avoid the appearance of chafing and blisters that can even lead to greater evils and destroy the best training or competition intentions of any cyclist.

MTB socks

An important part of your kit are the socks that will accompany you on your cycling routes.

The material must not be neglected. This will allow you to avoid chafing and possible injuries to your feet.

For example, the nylon and polyester material is advisable for humid or rainy climates. Since you may end up with a wet foot. Like those created with merino wool.

Those made with lycra are also highly recommended, as they provide comfort and prevent folds.
