HCA is a competitive inhibitor of the metabolic enzyme ATP-Citrate Liase that reduces the production of Acetyl Coenzyme A (involved in the metabolism of fats and carbohydrates), thus reducing the formation of fats and cholesterol(1).

Animal studies also demonstrate the effectiveness of natural HCA in weight control: it suppresses appetite and inhibits the biosynthesis of body fat. Additionally, it may be useful in the treatment of depression, insomnia, migration, and other conditions that lack serotonin(2).
