Carnitine is a substance naturally present in the body, derived from the essential amino acids lysine and methionine and is considered a conditionally essential nutrient, its importance in human physiology being recognized. While in intense exercise, the carnitine content in the skeletal muscle can be depleted quickly, its concentration in the body increases after its exogenous consumption. The low concentration of carnitine in the muscle is a direct limitation in the oxidation of intramuscular triglycerides and serum fatty acids in exercise at high intensities. For certain people, carnitine may present antioxidant protection, increasing the production of nitric acid metabolites which is associated with better blood flow and reduced muscle damage after exercise as more nutrients could be transported to the muscle. LCARNIPURE may be important as a regulator of the use of energy substrate by the muscle, muscle carnitine being a facilitator in the oxidation of fatty acids during intense exercise.
